Both Jefferson cross country teams win on rugged Poor House hills

HEDGESVILLE — Ryan Graf separated himself from the field in Jefferson’s cross country team win last Wednesday on the hilly Poor House Farm course that also had a small creek the runners had to cross.

Anya Wallace also separated herself from the field in the late going as she led the Jefferson girls to a team victory on the same course.

Graf (18:26) paced a Jefferson team effort that saw all seven of its runners finish in the Top 10. The Cougars finished with a team score of 22, far in front of Martinsburg (51) and the incomplete Hedgesville unit that failed to have the required five entries.

Wallace (23:20) was home in front of four other Lady Cougar runners that finished in the Top 10. Jefferson (18 points) far outdistanced Hedgesville (59 points) and Martinsburg (69 points).

In the boy’s race, Jefferson’s Andrew Milliron (19:05) was second, Rhett Zillinger finished (19:17) fourth, and Jackson Jacobs (19:40) was fifth overall.

In the girl’s race, Jefferson’s Abby Colbert (24:17) finished second and teammate Malika Briggs (26:01) was fifth.
