CHARLESTON (AP) — The state Higher Education Policy Commission wants Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin to exempt it from his recent request for most state agencies to trim their budgets by 7.5 percent for the 2013-14 fiscal year.
Tomblin’s request would mean a $35 million budget reduction for the commission.
The Charleston Gazette reports commission chairman David Hendrickson compares the request to asking a football team’s star quarterback to take a salary cut.
Hendrickson says the commission wants to send a strong message to Tomblin that it can’t make any more cuts.
