A fun-filled opener to Washington’s girls soccer season saw the Patriots stop visiting Berkeley Springs, 10-0, on Tuesday, August 21.
Five Washington players scored goals. Leading the scoring parade was Brianna Hester who posted four goals. Kayleigh Pierce was able to add two goals and Erin Buchanan, McKenzie Turner, and Katelyn Silveous each added one goal to the comfortable shutout win over the Lady Indians.
The one shot-attempt the Lady Indians had against the stingy Washington defense was stopped by Patriot goalkeeper Kylie Nelson.
Completely controlling the tempo allowed Washington to get its roster into the game. Berkeley Springs had problems maintaining any sort of organized flow into the Washington defensive end of the field.
On Saturday, Washington traveled to Winfield to face the Generals. Winfield got three goals from Jayne Lawman as well as one goal from Mackenzie Pritt, Katie Bryant, and Emily Cole to outscore the Patriots, 6-1. Hester had Washington’s lone goal as the Patriots went to 1-1-0 overall.
Unbeaten Winfield was 4-0-0. The Generals had goalkeeper Faith Burchet stop three shots.
