After 12 games through the months of November and December, West Virginia will open its first Big 12 basketball schedule against Oklahoma on January 5 at the Coliseum.
The just-announced schedule will actually open with the already-publicized game on the road against Gonzaga (the team that defeated WVU in the first round of the 2012 NCAA tournament) on November 12.
Before the January date with Oklahoma that begins West Virginia’s 18-game Big 12 Conference schedule, there will be a dozen games.
After facing Gonzaga, the Mountaineers will travel to Florida for a three-game Old Spice Holiday tournament over the long Thanksgiving weekend.
Marist will be WVU’s opening-round opponent in the Old Spice event. That game is scheduled for November 22. The other two games there come on November 23 and the 25th.
The first home game is against VMI on November 29.
After the annual Marshall game on December 5 in Charleston, the next six games prior to the date against Oklahoma will be on December 8 (Virginia Tech in the Coliseum), December 11 at Duquesne in Pittsburgh, December 15 against Michigan in Brooklyn at the new home of the NBA’s Nets, December 19 at home against Oakland, December 22 at home against Radford, and December 30 at home against Eastern Kentucky.
The Mountaineers will face the other nine teams in the Big 12 in home-and-away games to give them 18 conference games.
The only non-conference game in the 2013 portion of the schedule comes on January 19 at Purdue of the Big 10 Conference.
