HEDGESVILLE — Two games into its boys soccer season, Jefferson was still without a loss . . . or a win. The Cougars opened the season with a tie against University and then had to settle for a 0-0 tie the second time out when they visited Hedgesville last Tuesday night.
The Cougars were 0-0-2 with the scoreless tie while the homestanding Eagles were 0-0-1.
It was Jefferson that applied the most offensive pressure for the majority of minutes. Hedgesville was not able to attempt any shots that could have passed an out-of-position Cougar goalkeeper.
Hedgesville lost a man to a red card and played a player short for about three-quarters of the match.
Two times Jefferson players had needed scoring opportunities but were denied, once by a Hedgesville defender who covered up for the goalkeeper and a second time when the goalkeeper smothered a short-distance shot-attempt.
Jefferson had about twice as many legitimate shots as did the Eagles.
On August 23, the Cougars first win of the season was a 13-3 verdict over visiting Hampshire. Jefferson went to 1-0-2 overall.
Jefferson had four goals from Tucker Ryan, four goals from Brett Stuart, two goals from Jack Barrat, as well as one goal each frrom Tyler Steffey, Austin Ogden, and Lane Butts.
