Historical voice

Singers gathered Saturday at the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park for a unique, day-long workshop where they practiced the art of 19th-century “shape note singing.” The free Historic Arts Academy Workshop was limited to 30 participants. The workshop, called “Shout of Sacred Joy: An Introduction to Shape Note Singing,” was designed to provide a background into the history, customs and rudiments of shape note singing.
