“Big Latch On”: Nursing women and their babies will gather in Ranson and other communities across the United States at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to take part in the nation’s first synchronized nursing event.
The local Big Latch On will take place in the first floor conference room at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
This is the second year that Jefferson Memorial Hospital has taken part in the event.

Faculty awards: Drs. Phillip B. Aguila and Feroz F. Noori have been named Outstanding Clinical Faculty of the Year Award for the West Virginia University School of Medicine Eastern Division for 2012.
Aguila and Noori were chosen for outstanding commitment to teaching. Both doctors are board-certified pulmonologists practicing at WVUH-East Pulmonology in Martinsburg. They are members of the medical staff at City Hospital.
New neurologist: Neurologist Eduardo D. Zamora has joined the medical staff at City Hospital and will open a neurology practice in Inwood today.
Zamora recently completed a fellowship in electrophysiology at George Washington University Medical Center, where he also completed his neurology residency in 2011.

Faculty promotion: Dr. Sarah K. Moerschel has been promoted to associate professor by the West Virginia University School of Medicine.
She graduated from the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago and completed a pediatrics residency at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
A board-certified pediatrician, she has been practicing at Harpers Ferry Family Medicine since 2004 and is a member of the medical staff at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. In addition to her work as a physician and educator, Moerschel also serves on the Jefferson County Multi-disciplinary Investigative Team as a medical expert assisting law enforcement in cases of child sex abuse and interpretation of medical information.
Orthopedic addition: The Center for Orthopedic Excellence in Martinsburg has added orthopedic surgeon John W. Buschman to the practice at 1008 Tavern Road.
Buschman recently completed his residency in orthopedic surgery in Ohio at Doctors Hospital in Columbus and Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.

New pediatrician: Dr. Sarah B. Hardy has joined Shenandoah Community Health Center and the medical staff at City Hospital. Hardy earned her medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Anesthesia newcomer: Dr. Christopher M. Spiess has joined Eastern Panhandle Anesthesia Associates as an anesthesiologist.
Spiess recently completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Louisville Hospitals in Kentucky. He holds a doctor of medicine degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors in medical ethics.
Retirement: Dr. C.H. “Mitch” Jacques, who also holds a Ph.D., has officially finished his tenure as dean of the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center Eastern Division.
Jacques served for more than 19 years, both as a physician and as an instructor.
