HUNTINGTON (AP) — Former crewmembers from the USS John Marshall are rekindling friendships and starting new ones after a weekend meeting in West Virginia.
The former crewmembers reunited Saturday at Marshall University to see the bell from their submarine that has been displayed at the Huntington school since 1994.
The bell was given to the university by the Navy and Virginia Military Institute. It’s one of the last remaining parts of the submarine in existence.
The Charleston Gazette reports that a painting of the submarine commissioned by the United States Submarine Veterans Inc. that will hang in the John Marshall dining room was presented during a five-minute ceremony that ended with the ringing of the silver bell.
Afterward, the men took the opportunity to snap some pictures and trade stories.
