Softball tryouts: Summit Point Tsunami 12U girls softball tryouts happen Thursday, Tuesday and Aug. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. each day and Aug. 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The tryouts will be at 4095 Leetown Road in Summit Point. Highway workshop: State highway officials want public input on U.S. 340 corridor. Come to Bolivar Community Center Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Free tire collection: The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection offers free tire collection Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Department of Highways garage on Leetown Road. Tires can be on or off rim. Up to 10 tires can be dropped off with a West Virginia driver’s license. No businesses allowed. For questions, call 304-940-0258.

Safe driving: The Jefferson County Council on Aging will host an AARP Safe Driving Course from 8 to 4 p.m. Saturday at 103 W. Fifth Ave. in Ranson. Class will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and one must take all eight hours of the course in order to complete. The price for the class is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. 3 family reunions: Descendants of Thomas R. and Annabelle Rutherford Whittington are invited to attend the 55th annual family reunion Saturday. Annual yard sale: The Shenandoah Valley Chorus annual yard sale comes Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sept. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon at 500 Lanny Drive in Winchester, Va., just a few blocks from the Winchester Medical Center. The fundraiser is for the women’s a capella chorus, with used clothing, household items, books, antiques and other quality items offered for sale. A handmade quilt also will be raffled. A free mini-chorus will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Community workday: The Shepherdstown Community Club is conducting a workday at Morgan’s Grove Park starting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Jefferson Parks and Recreation and Shepherd University’s incoming freshmen class have also volunteered and will be participating in the repair of the walking/jogging path and parking lot.
