PRINCETON – The Charles Town-Ranson Junior League team reached the state tournament finals before falling, 8-6, to Dunbar/Cross Lanes/Nitro from Kanawha County.
After going 3-0 in pool play at the state tournament, Charles Town/Ranson had reached the semifinals where it defeated fellow District 6 representative Grant County, 9-0. Dunbar/Cross Lanes/Nitro eliminated Princeton in the other semifinal game.
Robert Cross hit two home runs against Grant County and Kaleeb Jones also hit a home run. Bradley Davis pitched a complete game shutout to help vault Charles Town/Ranson into the finals.
But in the state tournament championship game, Charles Town/Ranson was literally outscored by the team from Kanawha County.
Jones connected on a two-run homer, Dylan Mackey had two hits and a pair of RBIs, Grant Reed had two hits and an RBI, and Chase Crockett had two RBIs.
Charles Town/Ranson had won nine straight games beginning in District 6 Area 1 and then on through the early rounds of pool play in the state tournament.
