MORGANTOWN (AP) — The death of a Monongalia County sheriff’s officer has forced at least six cases to be dismissed because he was the only responding officer.
Monongalia County Prosecutor Marcia Ashdown calls the dismissed cases “a sad, consequential result” of Sgt. Todd May’s death.
The Dominion Post reports five drunken driving cases and another involving driving on a suspended license have been dismissed.
May died Feb. 18 after his stopped patrol car was struck by a hit-and-run suspect on Interstate 79 in western Pennsylvania. Driver Jerod Alan Green of Morgantown is facing multiple charges in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
