MARTINSBURG – The new Blue Ridge Community and Technical College campus on Apple Harvest Drive just outside of Martinsburg will be open to the public for tours on Friday.
The school’s Friends and Family Day happens from 2 to 5 p.m. at at 13650 Apple Harvest Drive, past The Commons shopping center on W.Va. 45.
The two-year, fully accredited, state-funded school began in 1974 as part of then-Shepherd College. It began to expand after moving to Martinsburg as the Community and Technical College of Shepherd and then became a separate institution six years ago.
The new campus allows the school to leave behind retrofitted space in downtown Martinsburg – classrooms and offices split between the one-time woolen mills that were converted into an outlet mall in the 1980s and the former Corning manufacturing plant on U.S. 11.
Blue Ridge offers more than 40 associate degree and certificate programs as well as workforce development training. Students will begin courses at the new location when the fall semester starts Aug. 20.
The school purchased land for the new campus in 2010 and broke ground for the first structures in 2011. Additional buildings are planned for the site. For more information on the school, see www.blueridgectc.edu.
