Better days for dogs
Lily Barz holds a puppy adopted at last month’s Bloomin’ Bash, a benefit organized each summer by Lisa Giles at her Bunker Hill business, Hillbilly Daylilies. The fourth-annual event brought in $3,335 for the Berkeley County Humane Society’s spay-neuter program. At this year’s Bloomin’ Bash on July 14, visitors gave homes on the spot to five puppies, a dog and two kittens. Giles charges visitors who come to the day-long festival and then earmarks the money for the Humane Society. Besides the chance to help animals and see Giles’ fields of daylilies, the event includes bluegrass bands, gardening workshops and children’s activities such as a rock wall from River Riders.
