MORGANTOWN (AP) — West Virginia University has created a new degree program in Latin American studies.
Professor Ángel Tuninetti says a significant number of students are preparing to declare the program their major or minor.
He says the program will benefit not only students studying arts and sciences, but also engineering and business students who may pursue careers in that region of the world.
The program has been in development for four years and was formally approved in February.
It took collaboration from 10 faculty members in the departments of history, geology and geography, political science, sociology and anthropology, and world languages, literatures and linguistics.
Victoria Garrett will direct the program and advise its majors.
