Dog and dog lovers took time to greet each other Saturday during Charles Town Farmers Market’s first Dog Day event. Wednesday’s edition of the Spirit of Jefferson has the story and photos, and we’re sharing even more photos here.
Volunteers from Northern Virginia Sheltie Rescue came to Dog Day. Want to know more about the Charlottesville, Va., organization? Go to www.nvsr.org or call 703-912-4002.
- Andrea Garza, of Tri-State Pet Care, brought dogs in need of permanent homes.
- Sarah Fisher from Mountain Mama Pies in Charles Town was busy selling her famed, made-from-scratch cherry, blueberry and peach pies at Charles Town Farmers Market on Saturday, but she had a pet project, too: free homemade treats for pups. The snacks looked a lot like the cinnamon buns humans enjoy but are super-crunchy – she lets them harden overnight – and are made with peanut butter.
- Charity Beth Long, the president of Discover Downtown Charles Town, said her Siberian husky, Luna, got lots of attention at Dog Day.
Caile, a Lhasa Apso terrier, won a prize Saturday for looking most like her owner, Cindy Brockman. With the pair is Cindy’s younger sister, 11-year-old Emily. The family lives in Uvilla.
