PRINCETON — The Charles Town-Ranson Junior League team opened pool play in the state tournament with a 26-0 win over Oceana. The other games the local team had in pool play were against Capital Midwestern from Kanawha County and Dunbar/Cross Lanes/Nitro from Kanawha County.
Dylan Mackey had four hits and five RBIs against Oceana and Darren Holmes, Bradley Davis, and Grant Reed all had three hits. Davis drove in four runs, while Reed and Holmes both scored three runs. Chase Crockett had two hits and four RBIs. Capital Midwestern fell, 9-4, to Charles Town-Ranson in the second game of pool play. In the sixth inning, with the score at 4-4, Mackey had an RBI double and there were five other hits in the game-deciding rally. Miguel Acosta was credited with the pitching win .
With Mackey contributing a two-run homer and Davis driving in the go-ahead run, Charles Town-Ranson stopped Dunbar/Cross Lanes/Nitro, 7-3, on Monday to finish pool play with a 3-0 record. Robert Cross and Acosta blanked the Kanawha Countians in the innings they pitched.
Charles Town-Ranson qualified for the state tournament semifinals scheduled to be played on Tuesday, July 17 with its 3-0 record.
