CHARLESTON (AP) — West Virginia agriculture officials are seeking the public’s comment on a proposed emergency rule concerning the use of poultry litter and swine manure.
The proposal would limit land application within three miles of primary poultry breeder operations, unless the litter and manure have been certified as free of disease by the state veterinarian.
Primary breeder farms must abide by strict limits to prevent introduction of diseases, such as salmonella, mycoplasmas and avian influenza, that can be spread through poultry and swine litter.
The deadline for comments is Aug. 10.
