CHARLESTON (AP) — The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office says a delegate heading to the West Virginia Democratic Party State Convention was killed when his vehicle crashed into a church near St. Albans.
The sheriff’s office tells The Charleston Gazette that Marion County’s Donald P. “Butch” Furbee was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday morning.
His vehicle ran off the road and struck the Faith Missionary Church early Saturday. He was the Marion County delegate to the Charleston convention.
Investigators said the 64-year-old Furbee was not wearing a seat belt. He was the lone passenger.
Democratic Party officials say Furbee was just getting active in politics. The convention nominated delegates to the national convention.
