Former WVU baseball player Tobias Streich was a catcher for the Mountaineers and played the same position in professional baseball as a minor leaguer in the farm system of the Minnesota Twins.
Playing at Beloit in 2011, Streich batted .212.
This spring, he changed positions and is now in extended spring training in Fort Myers. Streich is now a pitcher and has been in Fort Myers since May 7. When the short-season leagues began in the middle of June, Streich could be assigned to one of Minnesota’s minor league teams in one of those circuits.
WVU’s David Carpenter had been a catcher for the Mountaineers and changed positions and became a successful pitcher. Carpenter is now with the Hoston Astros of the National League.
