Little League tournaments open

The abundance of Little league baseball and softball tournaments got underway late last week when the District 6, Area 1 9-10 year-old event opened. In the first round, Jefferson County battered Charles Town-Ranson, 27-4, before dropping a 32-3 verdict to Morgan County and then losing to Hedgesville pitcher Camden Rebuck’s no-hitter in its only game in the loser’s bracket. Jefferson County was eliminated with a 1-2 record.

Charles Town-Ranson’s tournament ended with a 15-1 loss to South Berkeley. Tyler Dunlap had two hits and scored Charles Town-Ranson’s only run.

In the District 6, Area 1 9-10 year-old softball tournament there was no team from Charles Town-Ranson entered and Hedgesville tripped Jefferson County 12-2 in a first-round game.

The District 6, Area 1 10-11 year-old baseball tournament saw Martinsburg defeat Jefferson County, 9-1, in a first-round game. Martinsburg went to to beat Bi-State, 16-0, while Jefferson County went to the loser’s bracket where it thumped Grant County, 13-2, in its first game there.

There was no team entered from Charles Town-Ranson in the 10-11 year-old tournament.

Jefferson County Little League revealed its Junior League baseball all-star team and the members were Colin Smith, Jacob Pullen, Hayden Mood, Joseph Mills, Patrick Keiter, Jacob Jones, Dalton Jamison, Jacob Conner, Joshua Colvin, Alexander Butynski, and Jerrett Brumm.

The Junior League manager is Adam Webb and the coaches are Chris Keiter and Tony Jamison.

A 7-9 year-old team representing the Jefferson County Little League will play in a tournament in Martinsburg. The players on that team are Jimmy Williams, Daquon Shipe, Zach Rose, Sammy Roberts, Isaiah Morris, Hunter Link, Connor LaBombard, Ty Kracum, Griffin Horowicz, Ryan Hefner, Kamien Gonzalez, and Benjamin Franks.

The manager of the 7-9 year-old team is Jason Link and the coaches are Robbie Shipe and Sam Roberts.

The District 6, Area 1 11-12 year-old baseball tournament will bo co-hosted by the Charles Town Ranson Little League and the Jefferson County Little League.

That event starts on Friday (June 29) with games on that date being played at Sam Michaels Park, the home of the Charles Town-Ranson League. Two games — at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. — are planned for Friday at Sam Michaels.

Games played on Saturday (June 30) will take place at the home of the Jeffertson County League in Shenandoah Junction behind Jefferson High School. Saturday’s games at the Jefferson County League facility are planned for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The Jefferson County League needs volunteers to help in the concession stand, and in doing groundskeeper’s duties before and between games.
