Jefferson High senior outfielder/pitcher Shannon Lyons was selected by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association to the Class AAA first-team All-State softball team.
Lyons batted .406 and had 16 doubles for the Lady Cougars in 2012.
Jefferson pitcher Alexandra Witt drew special honorable mention from the writer’s group. Gaining honorable mention were Washington High’s Devin Williams and Christina Collin as well as Jefferson High’s Chelsea Shepherd and Lauren Simpson.
The 18-player all-state first-team had pitchers Mecca Henderson (Robert Byrd), Alli Burdette (South Charleston), CeCe Bailey (Parkersburg South), Kaity Hanna (Cabell Midland), and Amy Rotriga (John Marshall); infielders Morgan Kelley (Cabell Midland), Alyssa Cook (Lincoln County), Rachel Hickman (St. Albans), Joni Tyree (Nicholas County), and Kylie Howard (John Marshall); outfielders Lyons, Aleks Lawson (Lincoln County), and Sydney Kaplan (Cabell Midland); utility players Megan Garcia (John Marshall), Alicia Noble (Robert Byrd), and Morgan Aguirre (Logan); and catchers Katie Chryssofos (Logan) and Genna Trippett (Parkersburg South).
