Guide showcases public art pieces in Charleston
CHARLESTON (AP) — Charleston is celebrating its outdoor public art collection with a new guide that provides the sites of more than 50 pieces.
The guide’s release comes as the city holds its annual FestiVALL Charleston celebration.
The Charleston Area Alliance says an electronic version of the guide will be available on a website that’s being developed. It will be updated with future public art pieces, including several from this year’s FestiVALL Charleston.
The guide is a joint project of the city, the alliance, the Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences, the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority, the Arts Council of Kanawha Valley and FestiVALL Charleston.
Mayor Danny Jones says public art contributes to the city’s character.
