Annual Chamber of Commerce banquet: The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 53rd Annual Chamber Banquet on Wednesday at the Skyline Terrace at the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. The Spirit of Jefferson will be honoring the Outstanding Citizen of the Year award. Guest speaker for this year’s banquet will be Rick Adams from United Bank. Community Ministries events: Jefferson County Community Ministries will be open on Saturday for two events. The first will be from 9 a.m. to noon to receive donations of food and clothing for later distribution to the food pantry and clothing closet. Free summer reading program: The summer reading program at the Bolivar/Harpers Ferry library is a great way to keep kids and teens reading during the summer. Children, teens and adults can register until Saturday. The finale party for teens will be July 28 at noon. Discuss your favorite books, play games, and win prizes. Food and drinks provided. During the month of July checkout, read, and return books. For each book you read you will receive a raffle ticket — up to three per week — to enter a drawing for the prize(s) of your choice. The adult summer reading program book review potluck for adults will be held Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. Participants will review books they have read this summer, eat some excellent food, and win fabulous door prizes. Children’s asthma camp: Camp Catch Your Breath will hold a week-long camp July 22 to 27 for children ages 8 to 13 who suffer from asthma. The camp will be held at Jackson’s Mill 4-H Camp. Delaware shore birding trip: The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is sponsoring a birding trip along the Delaware shore Aug. 3 through 5. Anyone with an interest is welcome to participate, including children. There is no fee but participants will have to cover their own travel expenses and make their own room reservations. Participants should plan to wear comfortable walking or hiking boots; bring along bug spray to ward off ticks, mosquitoes and gnats; and bring water and, as necessary, a hat, sunscreen or rain gear.
