SHENANDOAH JUNCTION— With Devin Williams limiting homestanding Jefferson to only one hit and fanning 10 Lady Cougars along the way, Washington was able to register the school’s first-ever softball win over their county rivals.
Williams was in command from the outset as the Patriots came away with a 4-1 win in the Sectional game.
Washington moved to 10-11 overall with the victory and Jefferson went to 16-8 overall with the loss.
The Patriots opened the scoring in the second when Aja Matlock had a double off Jefferson hurler Alexandra Witt that scored both Amber Curry and Kaitlyn Woodward.
Washington’s lead was doubled to 4-0 in the fourth when Curry unloaded a solo homer off Witt and Williams also slammed a solo homer.
Jefferson’s only hit also became its only run when Witt reached Williams for her solo home run.
