Washington dominated visiting St. Maria Goretti, winning in shutout fashion (7-0) over the Gaels in a boys tennis match played on the Patriot courts on Wednesday last.
The Patriots had wins in all four singles matches as Austin Thomas (No. 3), Alden Roth (No. 4), Patrik Haglund (No. 2), and Will Wheatley (No. 1) took the measure of their Gael opponents.
The team win over St. Maria Goretti was Washington’s 20th of the 2012 season against only a lone loss to John Handley High of Winchester.
With a 4-0 lead after the singles matches were completed, Washington also tore through the doubles events with Cullen Irving/Cory Coomler (No. 3), Thomas/Roth (No. 2), and Wheatley/Haglund (No. 1) all registering wins over their St. Maria Goretti counterparts.
Washington High improved its girls tennis record to 18-3 with a competitive 5-2 win over host St. Maria Goretti last Wednesday.
The Patriots had wins in three of the four singles matches that were played. Winning in singles for Washington were Amber Barr, McKenzie Littleton, and Melissa Sirbaugh.
With a 3-1 lead after the completion of the four singles matches, Washington was then able to post wins in two of the three doubles matches.
Sirbaugh/Littleton and Barr/Molly Banfield teamed to win doubles matches for the Patriots.
