‘Right hands’ get a hand

SHEPHERDSTOWN – Heather Morgan McIntyre’s plan to add some Hollywood-style flair to the annual tradition of thanking secretaries, administrative assistants and other office workers proved a Hollywood-style hit.

McIntyre, the executive director of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, said she wanted to do more than just the standard Right Hands Day.

Amy Panzarella, vice president of human resources at American Public University System in Charles Town, was happy to take part in last week’s “Rolling Out the Red Carpet for Star Employees,” a special luncheon for administrative assistants organized by the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce.

“We didn’t want our celebration to ever get stale,” she explained. “I was thinking, ‘How can we make this really special?’”

The April 27 luncheon began with employees getting to walk the red carpet to the entrance of Shepherdstown’s Bavarian Inn.

They also were treated to an informative lecture. Following lunch, Tiffany Hine of Blue Ridge Community and Technical College offered tips on how employees at any level of an organization can ensure excellent customer service, even during challenging economic times. She teaches a course on the topic for the community college.
