Washington moved past the break-even point with its girls softball record when it defeated Musselman, 4-3, on its home field last Thursday. The Patriots were 12-11 overall while the loss left the Lady Applemen with an 18-10 overall mark.
Aja Matlock’s clutch single in the last of the seventh plated Madi Dan with the game-deciding run. Dan had been able to get into scoring position at second base with some daring baserunning.
The win capped a game-long comeback from behind that was necessitated by early-game errors the Patriots committed.
Musselman had the early lead at 2-0 into the third inning.
Washington’s first run was counted when Amber Curry’s RBI double scored Matlock.
The Patriots scored twice more as Christina Collins and Curry scored the runs to send the Patriots in front, 3-2.
A Brittany Ingram RBI that plated Musselman’s Nikki Dusing made it 3-3.
After getting Musselman in the top of the seventh, the stage was set for Matlock’s clutch RBI single that scored Dan and lifted Washington to a one-run win on its Senior Day.
The victory was Washington’s fourth straight.
Matlock had completed a perfect 3-for-3 afternoon at the plate and Dan was credited with a 2-for-3 offensive day.
