Jefferson’s Brittney Jackson takes a throw to retire a Hampshire runner.
SHENANDOAH JUNCTION— Jefferson bounced back from its first-ever softball loss to Washington High and completed its regular season with three straight wins to close out the regular season schedule with a 20-9 overall record.
The Lady Cougars tripped Berkeley Springs, 7-0, on Wednesday evening in a home game. On Thursday, Jefferson traveled to Baker and defeated East Hardy, 5-3.
In a make-up game last Friday in Shenandoah Junction that finalized the three-school Sectional standings, the Lady Cougars took a 10-2 win over visiting Hampshire.
That win over the Trojans moved Jefferson ahead of both Hampshire and Washington and left it with the No. 1 seed in the double elimination Sectional tournament that began on Monday, April 30.
Host Washington faced third-seeded Hampshire in a first-round game this past Monday with the loser having to play at Jefferson last night. The Sectional continues on (weather permitting) through the weeek.
