SHENANDOAH JUNCTION— St. Maria Goretti posted a pair of boys tennis wins over host Jefferson last week. The Gaels had match wins by scores of 5-2 and 4-3 over the Cougars.
In its 5-2 win, the Gaels had singles wins from No. 3 Rodrigo Reyna, who defeated Isaiah Washington, 8-6; and from No. 4 Mateo Pelja, who stopped Isaac Washington, 8-2.
St. Maria Goretti reeled off victories in all three doubles matches. At No. 1, Aaron Snook/Bryce Reeder tripped Kyle Polczynski/Devin Forman, 8-1. At. No. 2, Hawk/Reyna defeated I. Washington/I. Washington, 9-8 (7-2). And at No. 3, it was Pelja/Ozair Waseem beating Carlos Nathan/Catalino Leon, 8-2.
Jefferson’s singles wins were by No. 1 Kyle Polczynski when he stopped Aaron Hawk, 8-2, and at No. 2 where Devin Forman defeated Aaron Snook, 8-5.
In the 4-3 win over the Cougars, the Gaels had singles wins from Hawk at No. 1 where he stopped Polczynski, 8-4; and at No. 4 where Pelja blanked Leon, 8-0.
In the doubles matches, St. Maria Goretti’s Snook/Bryce Reeder were awarded a forfeit win over Polczynski/Forman at No. 1; Hawk/Reyna were likewise awarded a forfeit win over I. Washington/I. Washington at No. 2; and at No. 3, it was Jefferson’s Nathan/Leon defeating Pelja/Waseem, 8-6.
Jefferson’s wins in the singles matches came from Forman at No. 2 where he beat Snook, 8-3, and at No. 3 where Nathan beat Reyna, 5-3 (retired).
