MARTINSBURG— Martinsburg won both the boys and girls divisions of a track and field tri-meet it hosted that also featured Jefferson and Musselman.
The Martinsburg boys scored 72 points, Jefferson had 62.5, and the Applemen had 48.5. The Martinsburg girls totaled 92 points with Musselman accumulating 56.5 points and Jefferson trailing with 34.5 points.
The Cougar boys team did not use some of its more able point-producers because it had a prominent meet in Charleston on the weekend.
Producing wins for the self-limited Jefferson team were 1600-meter distance runner Eric Graf, whose time was 4:29.09; Curtis Chiswell in the 300 hurdles, Rynal Newman in the long jump, Travis Miller in the shot put, and Duncan Ward in the pole vault.
The Cougars used enough premier runners to also win three of the meet’s relays — the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400.
The Jefferson girls were able to win two individual events — the 3200 distance run where Payton Hoxton prevailed and the high jump where Kenya Price was the meet winner.
The one relay Jefferson took was the 4×800.
