Feeding students: The Caring Cupboard, begun in August to provide needy Jefferson County schoolchildren with shelf-stable foods on weekends, operates from the back entryway of Shepherdstown Lutheran Church’s parish house.
The church is seeking food and monetary donations, which may be dropped off at the Parish House, 110 N. King St., 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Thursday or mailed to P.O. Box 2008 Shepherdstown, WV 25443.

Free food for the needy: A free soup kitchen will be held at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church, 305 S. Charles St., every third Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. − 1 p.m.
Youth rally to feature former NFL player: The Youth Ministry of Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town will be having a youth rally starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The featured speaker will be former Denver Bronco safety Steve Fitzhugh. Known as “The chaplain of the pros,” Fitzhugh speaks to thousands of youth each year throughout the country and abroad. His talks help young people make positive choices in life. This event is open to all 6th through 12th grade youths of all denominations. RSVP is requested, as space will be limited. Brown to speak of experiences abroad: Evangelist Marie Brown will be speaking at Middleway United Methodist Church on Sunday at both the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services. Brown has traveled to China, Myanmar, Vietnam, New Zealand, and Malaysia. The community is invited to come and hear her message of hope. For details, contact the church office at 304-728-4770.
Homeless Coalition retreat: On May 18, from 5 to 9 p.m., the Jefferson County Homeless Coalition will have a planning and organizational retreat at St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, in the downstairs social hall. Come with ideas, and energy to share. Bring a bag supper for yourself.
Homeless Coalition monthly meeting: The Jefferson County Homeless Coalition will have its regular monthly meeting on May 22 at 7 p.m. in the board room of Jefferson County Community Ministries.
Special weekend at Samples Manor Church of God: A special outdoor service will be held on June 1 at 7:30 p.m. with preaching by the Rev. Jeff Dismore. Various groups will be singing with dinner on June 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. Danny Figins will be singing and Pastor Kenny Johnson will be preaching on June 3 starting at 7 p.m. All are welcome.
