Feeding students: The Caring Cupboard, begun in August to provide needy Jefferson County schoolchildren with shelf-stable foods on weekends, operates from the back entryway of Shepherdstown Lutheran Church’s parish house.
The church is seeking food and monetary donations, which may be dropped off at the Parish House, 110 N. King St., 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Thursday or mailed to P.O. Box 2008 Shepherdstown, WV 25443.

Free food for the needy: A free soup kitchen will be held at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church, 305 S. Charles St., every third Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. − 1 p.m.
Homeless Coalition retreat: On Friday, from 5 to 9 p.m., the Jefferson County Homeless Coalition will have a planning and organizational retreat at St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, in the downstairs social hall. Come with ideas, and energy to share. Bring a bag supper for yourself.
Annual Rockfish dinner: Leetown United Methodist Church in Kearneysville will be hosting their second annual Rockfish dinner on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. The menu will consist of baked rockfish, green beans, redskin potatoes, cole slaw, dessert, coffee or iced tea. Church yard sale: New Street United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown will be having a yard sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition to yard sale items, baked goods will also be available. Hymn sing: Silver Grove United Methodist Church will be having a hymn sing featuring “Country Melodies” on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. Directions to the church: off Rt. 9, Hostler Rd., three miles on left, go past Blue Ridge Acres, first driveway on left. Special singers to perform in Millville: Gospel Singers James and Starla Dean, former singers with Kevin Spencer and Friends will be the guest singers at the Millville Pentecoastal Church, 226 Millville Rd., Millville, on Saturday at 6 p.m. All are welcome. Spring handbell concert: The handbell choirs of the Charles Town Presbyterian Church will present a spring concert on Sunday starting at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. An offering will be received to refurbish the bells. All are invited.
Homeless Coalition monthly meeting: The Jefferson County Homeless Coalition will have its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the board room of Jefferson County Community Ministries.
Women’s Day program: The women of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church will sponsor the annual Women’s Day Program on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The theme this year is “Women of Faith.” The Gospelites of Wainbright Baptist Church will provide music. Special weekend at Samples Manor Church of God: A special outdoor service will be held on June 1 at 7:30 p.m. with preaching by the Rev. Jeff Dismore. Car wash and bake sale: Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, 1497 Hostler Rd., Harpers Ferry, will be having a combination car wash/bake/food sale on June 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Breakfast sandwiches will be served from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cars can be washed for $5, $8 for trucks and SUV’s.
