The Washington girls blanked the Jefferson tennis team, 7-0, to run their winning streak to seven straight matches.
Washington started the season with a loss to Handley High of Winchester, but has won all its other matches this season.
After wins in the singles matches from Angela Pittinger (No. 1), Jill Spuria (No. 2), Melissa Sirbaugh (No. 3), and McKenzie Littleton (No. 4), Washington had a 4-0 lead.
Washington’s doubles teams all posted wins over their Jefferson counterparts. At No. 1 doubles, it was Pittinger/Sirbaugh winning. At No. 2 doubles, it was Spuria/Littleton, and at No. 3 it was Amber Barr/Molly Banfield winning for the Patriots.
It may have been cold last Thursday on the tennis courts at Washington High. And it may have been windy. But homestanding Washington moved its boys’ record to 7-1 with a 7-0 win over visiting Jefferson.
Washington was winning for the seveth straight time after opening the season with a close loss to Handley High of Winchester.
It was Wheatley posting his win at No. 1 singles. And then Haglund (No. 2), Thomas (No. 3), and Roth (No. 4) all had successive wins to bolster Washington’s lead to an unbeatable 4-0 spread.
The Patriots followed those singles wins with an all-winning trio of doubles matches where Wheatley/Haglund (No. 1), Thomas/Roth (No. 2), and Cullen Irving/Calvin Young (No. 3) all prevailed .
