W.Va. businessman among challengers to health care law

CHARLESTON (AP) — A West Virginia businessman is among those asking the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down the federal health care overhaul.

David Klemencic owns Ellenboro Floors in Ritchie County. Earlier this year, he agreed to become an individual plaintiff in the National Federation of Independent Business’ lawsuit targeting the federal law.

Klemencic believes the law violates the U.S. Constitution by requiring that people obtain health insurance. He says it’s wrong to force private citizens into contracts with private companies.

Lawyers for the group and others challenging the law argued before the justices this week. Klemencic attended Tuesday’s hearing in Washington, D.C. He said the whole experience was very impressive.

Klemencic also isn’t much of a fan of health insurance. The 52-year-old instead pays for his medical costs with an emergency fund.
