Shepherd Robotics Club takes third place in international competition

Members of Shepherd University’s Robotics Club won third place at the Trinity College International Fire Fighting Competition in Hartford, Conn., on March 31.

Shepherd teams also took fourth place, ninth place, and 11th place.

Shepherd students represented four of the 48 teams that participated in the competition from schools including James Madison University, Pennsylvania State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Westminster College. Teams from China, Indonesia, and Canada also participated.

Third place winners included Shepherd students Jeff Carter, senior computer engineering major from Shepherdstown; Emad Khan, senior computer engineering major from Hagerstown, Md; and Leslie Uri Acuesta, senior computer engineering major from Gaithersburg, Md.

Fourth-place winners included Matthew Tark, junior computer engineering major from Hagerstown, Md; Gareth Glewwe, freshman computer engineering major from Frederick, Md; and Randy McCright, sophomore computer engineering major from Shepherdstown.

Ninth-place winners included Ryan Hernandez, senior computer information science major from Falling Waters; Courtney Crites, junior computer engineering major from Moorefield; and Christiana Pointier, freshman computer engineering major from Charles Town.

Eleventh-place winners included Michael Skaggs, junior computer engineering major from Arnoldsburg; Matt Alt, senior computer engineering major from Baker; Desiree Wade, sophomore computer engineering major from Kearneysville; and Amanda Haupt, sophomore computer engineering major from Falling Waters.

Shepherd’s Robotics Club will participate in RoboGames in San Francisco, April 20-22.
