One person killed in Ranson shooting, another hospitalized

[cleeng_content id="398709002" description="Read it now!" price="0.15"]RANSON — One man is dead and a woman has been hospitalized following a double shooting in an apartment building in Ranson overnight.

Dontrell Tyree Curry, 27, of Ranson was shot in the head sometime around 5 a.m. in a second-floor residence in Building 8 at Apple Tree Apartments, according to Ranson Police Chief William Roper. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roper said Curry was not a resident of the apartment. His body will be taken to the medical examiner’s office in Charleston for an autopsy, Roper said.

Rachel Cooke, 26, was shot in the arm and taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital, where she underwent surgery.

Police are looking for two people who were in the apartment at the time of the shooting, Roper said.

Two of Cooke’s underage children were present in the apartment at the time of the shooting, and both are now in the care of relatives, Roper said.

A West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Command Vehicle arrived at the apartment complex at about 9:45 a.m.

The investigation into the incident is continuing, Roper said.[/cleeng_content]
