SHENANDOAH JUNCTION— Despite an 8-3 win from Devin Forman (No. 2), Jefferson lost three of the four singles matches to Martinsburg and the Bulldogs defeated the Cougar boys, 4-3.
Grant Davis (No. 1), Ryan Springer (No. 3), and Owen Hamilton (No. 4) won singles matches for the Bulldogs.
After Davis/Hamilton won the No. 1 doubles match for the Bulldogs, Jefferson’s Isaiah Washington/Isaac Washington had an 8-2 win at No. 2 and Tyler Offutt/Carlos Nathan posted another Jefferson win at No. 3, winning by an 8-6.
The Cougars were able to win every match in a 7-0 victory over visiting Hampshire.
Kyle Polczynski won at No. 1 singles, 9-7; Forman had an 8-0 win at No. 2; Isaiah Washington won by an 8-4 count at No. 3; and Isaac Washington registered an 8-4 win at No. 4.
In the doubles matches, it was Jefferson’s Polczynski/Forman winning at No. 1 by an 8-2 score; Washington/Washington posting an 8-5 win at No. 2; and Offutt/Nathan getting an 8-1 win at No. 3.
Jefferson’s only tennis win in its 6-1 girls’ loss to Martinsburg came from Lauren Thomas/Susanne Lindsay at No. 3 doubles where they defeated Turner/Riser, 9-8 (7-2).
Martinsburg’s singles winners were Emily Widmeyer, Kim VanDongen, Molly Beck, and Hannah Beale. The Lady Bulldog doubles winners were Widmeyer/VanDongen and Beck/Beale.
The Jefferson girls were able to get a 6-1 win against Region II opponent Hampshire.
In Jefferson’s three wins in singles matches, it was No. 2 Maggie VanVliet notching a victory as did No. 3 Shelby Stanton and No. 4 Lauren Thomas.
Jefferson then swept the three doubles matches with No. 1 India Watson/VanVliet, No. 2 Stanton/Amy Schattel, and No. 3
Thomas/Susanne Lindsey finishing off the match for Jefferson.
Hampshire’s Brooke Davis posted a win at No. 1 singles.
