The City of Charles Town’s Board of Parks and Recreation announced plans to fully renovate the large playground at Jefferson Memorial Park over a period of three years. Phase One of the project began on Tuesday, April 24. Within a week, the playground will host new swings, teeter-totters, a slide, a climbing structure and a balance beam.
All of the new equipment will meet current health and safety regulations and will be ADA compliant.
The playground will be closed to the public during the week-long renovation. A grand re-opening and ribbon cutting is planned for May 19 in conjunction with other events scheduled for national Kids to Parks Day.
In addition to improvements at the playground, the pool and pool house at the park are receiving several upgrades this spring in preparation for the summer. New tiles have been installed around both the baby pool and the main pool. The fencing and filters have been repaired and new siding is being installed on the front of the pool house. According to Marybeth Anderson, parks manager, the pool will open Memorial Day weekend and remain open through Labor Day weekend.
