Cougars’ tennis tops Martinsburg

The Jefferson boys tennis team was able to reverse an earlier loss to Martinsburg when it defeated the Bulldogs, 4-3, last week.

The Cougars won three singles matches with Devin Forman (No. 2), Isaiah Washington (No. 3), and Isaac Washington (No. 4) all posting wins. Martinsburg’s lone win in the singles matches came from Grant Davis at No. 1.

Winning one of the three doubles matches was enough to get the Cougars the team win. Isaiah Washington/Isaac Washington (No. 2) registered a win. Martinsburg won the No. 1 doubles match (Davis/Owen Hamilton) and the No. 3 match (Ryan Spring/Myshake Abdi).

The Martinsburg girls tennis team defeated Jefferson, 6-1. The Lady Bulldogs won three of the four sngles matches — Emily Widmyer (No. 1), Kim VanDongen (No. 2), and Molly Beck (No. 3). Jefferson’s Lauren Thomas (No. 4) gave Jefferson its lone win in the singles matches.

All three doubles matches were taken by Martinsburg as Widmyer/VanDongen (No. 1), Beck/Hannah Beale (No. 2), and Sadie Tucker/Sarah Fizer (No. 3) gave the Lady Bulldogs three more wins.
