Shepherd graphic design students, alumni recognized

Shepherd University graphic design students were honored at the American Advertising Federation (AAF) of the Greater Frederick’s Addy Awards at the Musket Ridge Golf Club in Myersville, Md. on Feb. 25.

Of the five senior students who submitted entries, three were honored. Mike Jandora, a graphic design major from Shepherdstown, won the Student Judge’s Award and a gold Addy in packaging for his cobra laser-face CD packaging; Jeffery Baker, a graphic design major from Frederick, Maryland, won a silver Addy for his animal rights poster campaign series; and Bruno Pierce, a communications major from Martinsburg, received a silver Addy for his animation project titled “{why} you should hire me!” Katlynn Almansor, Martinsburg, and Miranda Wilfong, Buckeye, also submitted entries.

In addition, four Shepherd alumni were recognized at the award ceremony. Kalico Design, in Frederick, Maryland, represented by Kim Dow, principal designer and owner, and Jennifer Tyler, class of 2010, of Martinsburg, received a silver Addy award for their “Find it Frederick” magazine covers. Jenna Zelkowski, class of 2011, of Hagerstown, who works for Ridge Runner Publishing, received two gold Addy awards for Bliss regional wedding magazine in the magazine design category and in the book design category for “Something Needs to Change Around Here,” a nationally-distributed business leadership book.

Class of 2011 members Cory McNamee and Nick Walters, Octavo Design, and Mark Burrier, class of 2001, Enforme Interactive, were also recognized at the ceremony.
