Shepherd University’s debate and forensics team won nine awards at the state championship in Parkersburg on Feb. 23-24.
John Isner, Parkersburg, received three awards: first place for the Lincoln-Douglas debate, third place for the LD Speaker awards, and sixth place for Extemporaneous Speaking.
Timothy Jacob Leonard, Wheeling, received four awards: quarter finalist, fifth place for the LD Speaker awards, fourth place for Impromptu Speaking, and sixth place for After Dinner Speaking.
Shepherd University placed second place in Debate Sweepstakes and fourth place in Team Sweepstakes.
Marshall University, Alderson-Broaddus College, West Virginia University at Parkersburg, West Liberty State University, and Ohio Valley University also participated in the tournament.
