Marshall receives NIT bid

Even after falling hard to Memphis in the championship game of the ConferenceUSA tournament, Marshall received a bid to the NIT and played the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee on Tuesday in the first round of the event. The game was on the home court of Middle Tennessee.

Marshall had 21-13 overall record. Middle Tennessee was 25-6 but could not win its conference tournament.

Marshall has a bid to the NIT.

The NIT field included 32 teams of which 25 won at least 20 games. Should Marshall have beaten the Blue Raiders they would play the winner of the Tennessee vs. Savannah State game.

Some of the favorites in this year’s NIT are Miami of Florida, Seton Hall, Mississippi State, and Stanford.

A team has to win five games to win the tournament.

The first three rounds are played on the home courts of the various teams. Only the semifinals and the finals are played in New York at Madison Square Garden.
