SHEPHERDSTOWN — A Harpers Ferry man has been charged in the robbery that occurred last week at the Jefferson Security Bank in Shepherdstown.
Mark David Swann, 49, was arrested at his residence on Monday by members of the Shepherdstown Police Department, the West Virginia State Police, U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force, and the Harpers Ferry Police Department.
According to Shepherdstown Police Chief David Ransom, Swann allegedly walked out of the bank at about 1 p.m. with about $4,000 on March 9.
Surveillance cameras showed a close image of a man wearing wire rimmed glasses, a dark beard with a goatee, along with a tan sport coat, white button shirt, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes.
By noon Monday, Ransom said the police department had received a number of tips from the community.
Ransom said the suspect did not brandish a gun, but told a teller he had one.
Ransom said the suspect left the bank through the Princess Street exit and walked north toward South Princess Street.
Swann is currently being held at the Eastern Regional Jail pending arraignment.
