‘Sweeney Todd’ comes to Shepherd in February

Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning Sweeney Todd comes to Shepherd University on Friday, Feb. 3 and 10 , and Saturday, Feb. 4 and 11 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 5 and 12 at 3 p.m. in the Frank Center.

Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, is a musical thriller with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and libretto by Hugh Wheeler, presented through special arrangement with Musical Theatre International (MTI). The musical tells the story of Benjamin Barker, alias Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after being imprisoned for 15 years on false charges. When he learns from his former landlady Mrs. Lovett that his wife poisoned herself after being raped by Judge Turpin who wrongly imprisoned him, he vows revenge.

Admission and seating for Sweeney Todd is on a first-come, first-served basis. The box office will open one hour prior to each performance. General admission is $15; $10 for faculty, staff, and students 18 and under; and free for Shepherd students with Rambler ID and Friends of Music Gold and Silver MAC Cardholders.
