Unbeaten Martinsburg continues to lead the latest Class AAA boy’s basketball poll conducted by the Associated Press.
Martinsburg (14-0) received all nine first-place votes with unbeaten Fairmont Senior in second place after receiving all nine second-place votes. Ranked third was once-beaten Hedgesville. The fourth-through-tenth place Class AAA teams were South Charleston (13-2), Beckley Woodrow Wilson (11-2) , Morgantown (9-3), George Washington (9-3), Wheeling Park (9-4), Logan (11-3), and North Marion (10-2).
The Class AA leader is unbeaten Bluefield (11-0). Once-beaten Tug Valley (10-1) is second. Magnolia (15-2) is third and is followed by Wyoming East (9-4), Oak Hill (10-3), Tolsia (10-3), Sissonville (12-3), Braxton County (11-3), Westside (11-4), and Webster County (11-2) to round out the top 10.
Unbeaten St. Marys (12-0) tops the Class A poll. Weirton Madonna (11-2) is second and Midland Trail (11-1) is third. Following in fourth through tenth place are Moorefield (11-1), Parkersburg Catholic (11-3), Charleston Catholic (10-3), St. Joseph’s Catholic (11-4), Bishop Donahue (11-3), Trinity (11-5), and Tucker County (8-5).
The girl’s Class AAA rankings have Greenbrier East (16-0) in first place. Bridgeport (16-1) is second followed by Wheeling Park (16-2), South Charleston (14-3), University (11-3), Morgantown (13-3), Fairmont Senior (14-2), Spring Valley (14-3), Beckley Woodrow Wilson (10-4) and Princeton (13-4).
In Class AA, it’s Scott ahead of the field in the latest poll. Westside is second. Next comes many-time defending state champion Summers County, then Tolsia, Lincoln, Clay County, Chapmanville, Braxton County, Keyser, and Oak Glen.
The Class A ranks are led by Wheeling Central Catholic with St. Joseph’s Catholic, Trinity, St. Marys, Parkersburg Catholic, Williamstown, Tucker County, Pocahontas County, Clay-Battelle, and Gilmer County rounding out the top 10.
