Resident convicted for failure to register as a sex offender

MARTINSBURG — A 35- year-old Harpers Ferry resident was convicted on Jan. 25, by a Martinsburg jury on one count of failure to register as a sex offender. The trial lasted a day and a half and concluded on Wednesday. Chief Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the trial.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that: Larnell Torrence Minor was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). Minor is a person required to register as sex offender for life as a result of his 1998 conviction for Third Degree Sexual Assault in Montgomery County, Md.

Minor, who is in custody pending sentencing, Minor faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
