Project to gather W.Va. river dwellers’ history

BECKLEY (AP) — An oral history project is seeking to gather the stories of West Virginians who lived and worked along the New, Gauley and Bluestone rivers on land now managed by the National Park Service.

Members of the cultural-resources and visitor-services staffs of the New River Gorge National River will record people discussing their experiences of life along the rivers. The Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/z8MfjI ) reports that stories recorded at the Raleigh County Commission on Aging offices in Beckley will be used in park exhibits and online digital storytelling.

To learn more about the project or to schedule an interview, call David N. Fuerst at 304-465-6530.
