Justin Carter signs with Alderson-Broaddus

Jefferson High quarterback Justin Carter will be joining Alderson-Broaddus in the fall when the Battlers field their first-year team.

Said Carter: “We will be playing a junior college schedule the first year and then be a full member of the WVIAC in 2013. I want to be a starter the first year and play all four years. I’m undecided about my major but am leaning toward education and athletic coaching.”

The Battlers will be coached by Dennis Creehan, a veteran mentor whose brother hired him away from West Virginia Wesleyan. Coach Creehan’s brother is in his second year as the president of Alderson-Broaddus.

Threre are already 12 junior college players or transfers enrolled in school and Creehan has announced the signing of nine others. None of the 21 players is listed as a quarterback.

Carter is not on the list of signees because he has not finalized his financial aid papers and has not returned them to Alderson-Broaddus.

Clear Spring High quarterback Andy Mellott has also signed with the Battlers, but his name did not appear on the current list of nine athletes displayed on the school’s website.

Jefferson was 1-9 in 2010 and 1-9 in 2011 when Carter was a starter.

Alderson-Broaddus is an NCAA Division II school, the same as the other football-playing members of the WVIAC.
