Kenny Willingham files for wrong office
“J. Kenneth Willingham stated yesterday that he would shortly file a suit in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County to seek a judicial determination of whether or not he has a right to be listed on the ballot in the coming primary election as a candidate for Clerk of the Circuit Court.
Last Saturday, Willingham filled out a form announcing his candidacy for public office. It was his intention, he said, to file for Clerk of Circuit Court. However, his announcement contained the phrase “County Court.” Saturday was the deadline for filing.”
Two arrested for taking money from pinball machine
“Two Jefferson County youths, one a 17-year old juvenile, the other Leonard Robert Lee, were arrested recently for allegedly taking money from a pinball machine at “Red” Dunn’s beer tavern near the Charles Town Jockey Club.”
$124,230 set in budget for Ferry Park
“$124,230 is provided in the current Interior Department budget for the rehabilitation of the Harpers Ferry National Monument, Congressman Harley Staggers announced in Washington Wednesday.
‘This appropriation is a tribute to the people of Harpers Ferry and other areas who have interested themselves in this historic project. The Interior Department, as well as conservationists throughout the country, recognize the value of this great rehabilitation project,’ Staggers said.”
