SHEPHERDSTOWN— Six area high school swim teams converged on the Shepherd University Wellness Center on Saturday for the Eastern Panhandle Championship meets.
Jefferson won the six-school boys division with 99 points. Musselman was the team runner-up with 78 points. Washington finished third with 53 points. Martinsburg (32), Hedgesville (32), and Hampshire (12) trailed the field.
Jefferson won the six-team girls division with 120 points. Hedgesville was the runner-up with 88 points with Washington being in third place again with its 40 points. Martinsburg (27), Musselman (20), and Hampshire (7) were the three trailers in that division.
The Cougars had Keegan Simmons take wins in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Simmons also swam the anchor leg on Jefferson’s winning 200 freestyle relay team. Kyle Polczynski gave the Cougars a win in the 100 freestyle.
Washington’s three wins in individual races were achieved by Derek Carson (wins in both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle) and Shawn Gee in the 100 backstroke.
In the girl’s division, Jefferson’s Luisa Holland swam to wins in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Holland was the anchor-leg swimmer on Jefferson’s winning 200 freestyle relay unit.
Kaley Hoffman also had a pair of Jefferson High wins in individual races. She was first in the 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle. Ashleigh Orr was able to post a win in the 200 individual medley.
Jefferson won the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
